Day 1 - Back again!

Melbourne to Dubai - Premier Inn Silicon Oasis

It's been a while since we have been on a trip proper, we didn't think it would take us so long to get back to it but its time to get moving again! This time we are off to the South of Spain for 6 weeks, so K can put all those years of studying Spanish to the test, and who knows, we might find a place that we think we might like to move to some day.

We made it to our stopover in Dubai, booked into what we thought was the same airport hotel we had used before in Dubai, only to find K had picked a different one 20kms or so out of town in the middle of a technology park...oops! At least they let us check in early at 9am though, and the staff and room were great!

Yes, you can have a 4WD, as long as it's white

That afternoon we went on a desert safari trip. We started off with some 4WD sand dune bashing, we think the driver made an error in the beginning as the first jump was so huge we hit our heads on the roof and our sunglasses were thrown off! It settled down after that, but was still a lot of fun, amazing amount of 4WD's (hundreds) all doing the same thing but there was still plenty of room for everyone. 

We were then taken to a "camp site" where we watched traditional shows (belly dancing, whirling guy) that were of a very good standard and finished with a BBQ dinner - a pleasant trip to see the other Dubai, the endless stretches of desert - such an inhospitable area.
