Day 38 - Nice
First task of the day was to buy a new phone, so we headed to Av. Jean Médecin, the main shopping street where M's research had located a couple of places to get a phone. After walking out of one store where the salesman wouldn't let us check the phone model on the box without buying it first (!?), we forked out for a new phone that had dual eSIM capability.
Shopping done, we walked to the old town to explore Nice, which we hadn't had a chance to do yet. We walked down to Plaza Massena and along the Promenade des Anglais which followed the beach to reach Castle Hill.
We had planned to take the lift to the castle lookout but after waiting for quite a while in the very hot tunnel we left. K found a seat overlooking the bay while M walked up the stairs to see the views from the top and also briefly explore the parkland around the castle.
We then walked back through the very busy, very touristy old town of Nice (which is kind of like many other large "old towns" we've visited), stopping for an ice cream along the way, then back to our apartment to set up K's phone and get her back online.
We spent quite some time on the phone with Telstra trying to get K's old phone number working again (which is why we'd purchased a dual eSIM phone), but we had to give up ... which was a little frustrating because we knew that what we were asking was possible, even though the "team leader" said it wasn't. It was the weekend though and we were working with the offshore team, so we decided we would try again during Australian business hours when we could get someone local to help us.
