Day 200 - Goodbye Cuba, hello Bahamas

Havana (Cuba) to Nassau (Bahamas)

A taxi picked us up for the airport and once again it was a lovely old car, immaculately clean inside and out, a fitting way to say goodbye to Cuba. We arrived at the airport to find that we had been taken to the wrong terminal so we had to catch a taxi to the other one, but we were then told we could not enter! Everyone was standing outside in the heat without any seats until their flight's check in was ready.
Look at that beauty!
When we finally made it through to the exit hall we needed to spend the few Cuban CUCs we had left. We had hoped we could get some breakfast there but it was difficult since most of the items on the menu weren't available, and the fridges in typical Cuban fashion were empty apart from cans of beer. We ended up going to the duty free shop where a tin of Quality Street chocolates that we've seen back home for $10 were priced at US$45!

We flew into Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas and caught a taxi to our airbnb apartment. Strangely they only offered check in after 6pm so we secured our luggage on the front porch of the house and went for a walk. We found the local supermarket, which we were excited to see looked just like the ones at home, there was actually stuff on the shelves!! We decided not to buy anything just yet, as we needed to check what was available in our accommodation, as quite often the kitchens have been pretty basic which can make cooking difficult.

We finally checked in around 6pm to find that the unit we'd booked had been given to someone else, all we had was a room with an ensuite connected to the main house. We were not happy so we were offered our money back but by now it was approaching 7pm and we were having a lot of trouble finding alternative accommodation, especiallly as the Internet kept dropping out all the time.

We ended up going out for dinner to a relatively expensive restaurant nearby, in general prices in the Bahamas are high so we decided we really needed to find somewhere to stay where we could do our own cooking.
