Day 9 Santorini

We knew that May 1st is a public holiday so we expected many things to be closed, plus it's apparently a day that a lot of people go on strike. As we have been caught in cities before on public holidays we didn't have high expectations. We looked into hiring a 4 wheel buggy for the day so we could see the rest of the island but in the end we settled on a small car for the same price and we headed off to do the tourist trail of the south of the island.

We know we are spoiled in Australia with our beaches but the famous Red Beach is just ridiculous, a pile of red and black volcanic rocks with people sunbaking didn't look like much fun.

We continued on visiting a couple of different villages and beaches before heading to the north of the island to the famed Oia. It is famous as the place to watch the sunset and even though it was a couple of hours before the sun would go down people were still vying for prime position. It is a prettier town than the others we'd seen but was swarming with tourists (which we aren't of course).

We drove back to Fira and to the Mexican restaurant C had told us about with "all you can eat" ribs. Unbeknownst to us we sat at the same table that C&T had sat at on their visit, with a wonderful view of the sunset. M couldn't compete with T's impressive four servings of ribs though, one was enough.
