Day 102 - Where's the market?

Huanchaco

Today we decided to explore Huanchaco and headed off to find the local market, instead we found the huge church on the hill that incredibly we had somehow missed seeing up until now. After much walking we still hadn't found much of a market - a few shops selling fruit, maybe it was only open in the mornings?

We went for a walk on the pretty but otherwise unremarkable pier that for some reason we had to pay to walk on. There were lots of people fishing but their catches were so small it didn't seem worth the effort. The beach looks better from a distance than closer up as the sand is quite dark with lots of pebbles and rubbish, but Huanchaco is a nice town as it's not too busy. Strangely (for us anyway) most of the seafood restaurants close around 5pm leaving only a few other restaurants to supply the dinner trade.

The only shops we found were tiny hole in the wall places that we originally thought were all closed as they were protected by metal gates, but looking closer there was a small hole in the grate where you placed your order, in a town that felt so safe it seemed strange.
